SOCAL x Clifford Chance Event - Windrush Voices: Stories of Resilience

  • Clifford Chance (Auditorium) 10 Upper Bank Street London, England, E14 5AB United Kingdom (map)

In collaboration with Clifford Chance, we are delighted to invite you to our joint Windrush Commemoration event: Windrush Voices: Stories of Resilience on 6 June 2024 at 6.30pm at Clifford Chance.

We will be discussing the experience of growing up and navigating life in Britain from descendants of the Windrush Generation, and the longstanding impact that they have had on British culture. We are fortunate to be joined by the following guest panellists:

Tony Fairweather

Founder and curator of the Windrush Collection and the Windrush Exhibition of artefacts associated with the Windrush generation. Tony opened one of the first Black bookshops in the UK, before going on to work for the Voice newspaper, where he managed the Voice book club. In 1989, Tony founded ‘The Write Thing’, an events company established to promote Black authors, which led to his working with a veritable who’s who of the Black literary world, including Bernardine Evaristo, Dr Maya Angelou, Alice Walker, Toni Morrison, Terry McMillan, and many more.

Pauline Campbell

A published author and British Principal lawyer, who has been providing pro bono legal support in conjunction with the Justice 4 Windrush Campaign to individuals affected by the Windrush Scandal.

Dr Inez Brown

A lawyer who brings over two decades of legal expertise in clinical negligence and special educational needs. As the Founder and CEO of McKenzie Brown Consultancy Ltd, Inez continues to act for clinical negligence clients but also represents businesses in the areas of leadership, strategy, and governance. In 2020, Inez was inaugurated as the first ever black woman president of the Birmingham Law Society in its 202-year history.

After the panel discussion, you will have the chance to experience Tony Fairweather's Windrush living room collection: At HOME with Tony Fairweather. The exhibit promises to transport you back to a 1950s Caribbean front room! We will also enjoy a networking reception with Clifford Chance's race affinity network REACH, where you can enjoy Caribbean-inspired canapes.

Please check back. Details on how to RSVP to this event will be shared shortly!
